Betsy Leonard has worked in the not-for-profit sector for over 25 years and currently leads People and Culture at Heartland Alliance, a global anti-poverty and human rights organization. Her expertise is in strategy, learning, leadership development, culture, and external relations. Prior to her current role, she served in various roles including Vice President of Engagement, Chief Culture Officer, and Senior Director of Employee Services. Before joining Heartland Alliance, Ms. Leonard worked in the finance sector and was a Spanish instructor at Robert Morris Junior College after completing a Master’s degree at Tulane University. She earned a Bachelor’s degree from Elizabethtown College and studied abroad at the University of Barcelona. She is a 2016 Fellow of the University of Chicago Civic Leadership Academy.

"It's just really, really jarring to think about how something that you something where you think you have control and you only have to worry about, you know, going to school or going to work. And suddenly you're put in this position where, you know, communities and cities are, you know, in trouble. "
